A few days ago, Democratic Senator and Presidential candidate Chris Dodd has joined Rep. Dingell in calling for a carbon tax. Salon has the interview. He'd use the funds to research and promote green technologies. The piece doesn't give us that many details on the tax structure, although it would be a corporate and not an individual tax. He predicts that the tax would be passed on to consumers in a ten cent increase in the price of gasoline.
I do worry some about the regressive nature of the carbon tax, although doing it at the corporate level might help that some. I'd like to see a breakdown on who will end up paying the $50B, but for now I'm happy to have politicians talking about it.
